Toothache or abscess
Toothaches can eventually become dental abscesses if not appropriately addressed. Dental abscesses are bacterial infections that occur around the tooth root or in the space between the teeth and gum tissue. It’s a serious medical condition that can damage oral tissue and surrounding teeth, and can spread to other body parts if left untreated. Consider thoroughly rinsing your mouth with a warm salt-water solution or apply a cold ice compress to the outside of the mouth or facial cheek to help manage pain symptoms until you can be seen. Over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drugs, such as Tylenol™, or Advil™, can also help ease any immediate physical discomfort. To reduce the risk of costly medical complications and to prevent increasing tooth pain or patient discomfort, seek medical attention immediately.
