Why Curtis Poirier Still Trusts Dr. Bains After 30 Years
Lewis Estates Dental Centre has been part of Curtis Poirier's life for longer than most dental practices have existed. Long before Dr. Pushpinder Bains and her brother, Harbuksh Sekhon, opened their West Edmonton office, Poirier knew them as regular clients at his own place of work. Lewis Estates Dental Centre is a family dental practice in West Edmonton that connects oral health to a patient's overall wellbeing, and it has served the community since 2002. When Poirier needed a new dentist, the timing lined up with the clinic's opening, so he asked Dr. Bains to take him on directly.
A Long-Standing Relationship, In His Own Words
"If you are looking for a new dentist based on Google reviews, your search is over! Over 30 years ago, I was blessed to meet two dental students at my place of work named Pushpinder Bains & her brother Harbuksh Sekhon. They both ended up being regular & loyal clientele of mine. Over the years, I learned just how kind, warm and family-focused they were! Once they both finished dental school, they opened up a brand new dental practice together on the west end of the city. Ironically, I was in need of a dentist at same time they were looking for new patients! I asked Dr. Bains if she would take me on as a new patient because they had been so loyal to me in the past. In hindsight, that was the best decision I had ever made in my lifetime in regards to my oral health! Not only is she professional, she is kind, empathetic and compassionate! Dr. Bains is a true magician and a master of her dental craft. She will do everything possible to accommodate her clientele and creates beautiful smiles every day. To her, every patient is treated as if they were family. In fact, most of the dental rooms have pictures of her real family over the years to make you feel at ease as she begins any procedure! I've spent hundreds of hours under her care and she has done an incredible job every single time! Not only is she a professional at what she does, she also surrounds herself and hires only the best of the best staff! I have had the opportunity to meet and be under the care of most of them, but I want to make a particular shout out to Ashley and Adrianna! Ashley is both the senior administrator & registered dental assistant of the clinic and is one of the kindest souls you will ever meet. She truly really cares about all the patient's needs and will always accommodate my personal needs every single time without hesitation! A true champion! Adrianna, on the other hand, is one of the registered dental assistants that works hand in hand with Dr. Bains and is a complete dental rock star! Unfortunately, I now suffer from both balance and mobility issues from early onset Parkinson's disease. In numerous accounts, she has gone out of her way to ensure my safe passage directly from my dental chair to my parked vehicle outside. She even caught me a couple times in the process and stabilized me again preventing potential nasty falls. She must be a superhero on the side! Honestly, Dr. Bains trains and communicates with all her staff so well that it almost doesn't matter who is your registered dental assistant. Everyone steps up to the plate to ensure the patients are treated first class every single time! On top of everything else, Dr. Bains always has the latest cutting edge technology in terms of dental equipment to ensure the best possible care and results for her patients. She is also always learning new skills by extensive training and branches out to other services that you may need one day! In summary, I am so appreciative of every dental service that Dr. Bains has provided me over the last 30 years. Dr. Bains, thank you so much for your care and kindness from you & all your staff! Highest recommendation possible!"

What Makes a Family Dentist Worth Keeping for Decades?
Lewis Estates Dental Centre keeps patients like Poirier for decades because Dr. Bains trains her entire staff to deliver the same standard of care, no matter who is assisting that day. Patients managing chronic conditions get consistent physical support and clear communication at every regular dental check-ups and exams visit, not only during emergencies. That consistency, more than any single treatment, is what Poirier credits for his loyalty.
Meet the Staff Behind Every Appointment
Poirier names two staff members directly: Ashley, the senior administrator and registered dental assistant, and Adrianna, a registered dental assistant who works closely with Dr. Bains. Lewis Estates Dental Centre's own team page confirms both hold the titles Poirier describes, which matches what he experienced in the chair. You can meet the team behind every appointment before booking your own visit.
Where Do You Stand? A Quick Self-Check
Not every patient has spent three decades with the same dentist, so it helps to know when a relationship like Poirier's is worth seeking out. Below is a short checklist to see whether your current dental care matches your needs as those needs change.
- Your health has changed since you started seeing your current dentist, and you're not sure the practice adjusted with you.
- You've had to explain a chronic condition or mobility issue to a new staff member more than once.
- You feel less steady getting in and out of the dental chair than you used to.
- You've skipped or delayed an appointment because getting to and from the clinic felt harder than the visit itself.
If two or more of these sound familiar, it's worth asking your dentist directly how staff are trained to support patients whose needs change over time.
How the Practice Supports Patients With Mobility Challenges
Poirier now lives with early-onset Parkinson's disease, which affects his balance and mobility. It would be easy to assume that accommodating a patient like this mainly requires special equipment, such as ramps or transfer lifts. What Poirier describes instead is staff who physically walked him from the dental chair to his car and caught him more than once to prevent a fall. That points to training and attention as the deciding factor, not hardware.
Three Steps Dr. Bains Uses to Keep Care Consistent
- Dr. Bains trains and communicates with all staff so care quality does not depend on which assistant is assigned that day.
- Staff members like Adrianna accompany patients with mobility limitations from the treatment chair to their vehicle after a procedure.
- The same attentiveness carries into routine visits, not just larger procedures, so ongoing support does not lapse between appointments.
What happens to a patient's care when the person assisting them changes from one visit to the next? For someone managing a progressive condition, that inconsistency can matter as much as the treatment itself. Some patients in this situation choose mobility-focused clinics or home-visit dental services instead of a general practice, and that choice depends on how much day-to-day support a person needs.
A tour of our West Edmonton office shows a practice built around comfort rather than clinical distance, which fits the kind of hands-on support Poirier describes needing.
Why Staff Training Matters as Much as the Dentist
Can a dental practice really function the same way no matter which assistant walks through the door? Poirier says Dr. Bains trains and communicates with her staff so well that it almost doesn't matter who is assigned to him. That only holds up if training is ongoing rather than a one-time onboarding step. Staying with one practice for 30 years also carries a real cost: patients skip the chance to compare newer techniques, different pricing, or specialists who focus more narrowly on one concern, and that trade-off is worth weighing on its own.
Lewis Estates Dental Centre applies this same staff-wide training model to routine restorative work, including dental fillings and crown procedures, so patients see the same standard whether they're in for a cleaning or a repair.
That training extends to urgent situations too. Because every staff member is briefed the same way, patients calling about a chipped tooth or sudden pain can expect the same responsiveness as someone booking a same-day emergency dental treatment.
Matching Technology and Treatment Choices to the Patient
This kind of long-term, staff-wide consistency fits patients who value one relationship over shopping between specialists for every procedure. It fits less well for someone who wants a single practitioner to personally handle every visit, since Poirier's account describes a team-based model by design. Poirier's review also points to Dr. Bains staying current with dental equipment and ongoing training in additional services, which matters most when a treatment has more than one option and picking the wrong one is common. Sedation dentistry options range from nitrous oxide to oral sedatives to IV sedation, and matching the method to a patient's anxiety level and health history, rather than defaulting to the strongest option, is a decision best made with a dentist who already knows that history.
The same principle applies to dental crowns built to match your bite. Porcelain, zirconia, and metal alloy options each suit different bite forces and locations in the mouth, and choosing by appearance alone is a common mistake. It's worth noting that the accommodations Poirier describes, like staff walking a patient to their car, are staff-driven rather than part of a formal accessibility certification. Patients with significant mobility needs should still confirm specific supports directly with the clinic before booking.
